October 2011 “My View”

Recently, I was recognized at a school board meeting for my participation in the Broward League of Cities. On Tuesday, Nov. 15, I was broadcasted live from my school to the meeting. At the school board meeting, Mayor Debby Eisinger spoke about the Student Ambassador program and I was able to speak about my experiences with the Broward League of Cities. I was also able to share this experience with my fellow classmates and my principal.

I have learned a great deal through being an ambassador with the Broward League of Cities. At the school board meeting, I spoke about how I feel that the Broward League of Cities has given me the chance to learn about local politics. I am interested in majoring in political science; thus, the Broward League of Cities has given me a unique advantage. The workshops that I have attended through the course of my ambassadorship have taught me various things that I had never realized played a role in local politics. One of the most beneficial parts of the Student Ambassador program is that it allows interaction with elected officials. This gave me the opportunity to discuss things that I found significant with various officials. Overall, at the school board meeting, I was honored to be able to speak about my positive and useful experiences with the Broward League of Cities.

Although the program is still in its initial years, I believe that it will become very popular and continue to assist students aiming toward a career in public office. I also want to thank Mayor Eisinger and everyone who worked to create this program for high school students.
