May 2011 “My View”

At this past Broward League of Cities meeting I had the pleasure of watching the induction of the League’s new President Debby Eisinger. The night had already been off to a great start. Guests arrived at the beautiful Temple Beth Emet and were greeted by wonderful food and friends. The Cooper City High School Band played extraordinarily well, and their variety of music fit the occasion perfectly. During the cocktail hour, I was able to meet and greet some of our county’s elected officials as well as others who work and serve in our community. This was the largest turn out I had seen since becoming a student ambassador, and the support for Mayor Eisinger was almost palpable.

For the first time since first attending these League of Cities meetings, I was able to converse with fellow Broward County students and get their takes on our elected officials and the processes of politics. They said it was a little overwhelming meeting all the officials; however, as soon as they began talking to each one, they immediately saw how welcoming each individual was. This was exactly how I felt after my first meeting. The crowd then moved into the large dining hall which was beautifully decorated with ornate lights and centerpieces. The ceremony was soon underway, and I had the honor of handing some committee members awards of recognition. It was nice to see the League of Cities recognizing so many individuals for their service to our community. Some people don’t realize the hard work that goes into being an elected official.

After the awards were handed out, the new League of Cities President Debby Eisinger was installed. I was truly honored to be able to witness this great ceremony for not only Mayor Eisinger, but the whole League of Cities as well. The night couldn’t have gone any better. The people, food and the atmosphere all helped to make the night into a spectacular event. I would just like to leave Mayor Eisinger with a final congratulation on her well-deserved position!
